Life’s a Bit, Let’s Talk Self-Care
Self-care is one of those things everyone says they’re going to do… until life happens.
We picture it as perfectly lit bubble baths, silk robes, and a glass of wine in hand while our favorite playlist hums in the background. And sure, that’s lovely—but most days? Self-care looks a little messier.
Sometimes it’s doing the laundry that’s been in the dryer for three days.
Sometimes it’s saying “no” to plans because your social battery is fried.
Sometimes it’s eating cereal for dinner because cooking would push you over the edge.
For me (Beck), self-care might be curling up on the couch, putting my phone on Do Not Disturb, and binge-watching Netflix until the credits start asking if I’m still there. For Jess, it’s hopping in the car for an “adventure”—which could mean Tractor Supply, Goodwill, or some other place we absolutely don’t need to go but somehow leave with a story (and at least one random purchase).
Here’s the thing: self-care doesn’t have to look Instagram-perfect. It just has to serve you. It’s about small moments that make you feel like you again. It’s letting yourself rest without guilt. It’s choosing kindness for yourself the way you would for someone you love.
So maybe this week, instead of forcing an elaborate “self-care routine,” you just pick one thing—big or small—that makes your life feel even a tiny bit lighter.
Because life’s a bit… and taking care of yourself makes the whole bit easier to handle.
